Not In The Mood

I'm sure it's obvious to the one or two people still checking this website that I have barely bothered to give this project life support over the last several months. I feel like I am wearing the same things over and over again, and frequent shopping isn't in my heart or my budget lately. Plus, I just don't have this in me right now.

If I start up again or think of a fun way to repurpose this space, I'll let you know over on the other thing. Until then, my black Target cardigan has left the building.

Wednesday 2/20

Black jersey sleeveless dress with small white polka dots, thrift store
Black nubby shawl-collared sweater, Macy's, on sale, less than $30
Black Hue tights, 2 for $17
Nine West red patent peep-toe heels, Marshall's in Chicago
Red, black and white leopard print scarf, thrift store, $1

I have gotten lots of compliments on this outfit today, especially the shoes. I bought these in Chicago way back in September, owing to an obsession with red shoes, and then hardly ever wore them until recently when I started wearing them with either fishnets or black tights. Lots of comments every time I wear them. There is one particular Marshall's I always visit when I am in Chicago, at Michigan and I think Ontario (I always find it by looking for the Lawry's restaurant, which seems so weird and 70s, like you would go in there and see Captain Steubing and Vicki at one table, and, I don't know, Matt Houston at another). I know it seems beyond queer to go out of town only to visit a Marshall's, but I do it in almost every city I visit, partly to kill time and partly because you can always find good stuff at a Marshall's.

Also, I am probably the last person in the known universe to cotton on to this, but how great are Hue tights? Soft and stretchy and they never have that tacky shiny sheen that makes me rageful.

Seriously, how weird does that restaurant look? There aren't even windows! It's weird, isn't it?

Tuesday 2/19

I suppose I should change the name of this blog to, "Updated When I Am Excited About What I Am Wearing, Which Is Never." It's just that I hate my clothes, I hate the way they fit me/I look in them right now, I can't buy new ones, life is a vale of tears, etc etc.

First world problems all, I know.

I can, however, report updates on my wish list. I haven't bought any new vintage gloves, but I did unearth all of the pairs I currently own, which include hot pink, a really nice ruched light blue pair and a relentlessly tailored green pair. Thank goodness I have relatively dainty hands. I also acquired a pair of fingerless gloves, which are nice for one thing: smoking. And instead of buying new chiffon scarves I've merely tried to incorporate more of the ones I already had.

I've saddle-soaped my boots, but as soon as the weather turns I really will need to take them to my guy. Coats to the cleaners at the same time, I think.

Friday 2/1

I wore a black velour Old Navy sweatsuit today. TO WORK. This is amazing even to me.

Anyway, stepping back from the clothing topic for a moment, one of my lesser "resolutions" for 2008 is to keep myself in manicures. This runs sort of contrary to the whole budgeting-and-saving-money business, but on the flip side, I love getting my nails done. It makes me happy. It makes me feel finished, grown-up and polished. I take good care of my nails at home, so doing this every two weeks will cost me on the order of $40 per month. Since I no longer have cable ($82 per month), this seems reasonable.

The difficult thing (and when I say "difficult," I mean it strictly in a first-world, spoiled-brat, not-really-a-problem sense) will be summer, when toenail polish season comes calling. The good thing about pedicures is that they last a long time; the bad thing about pedicures is that they cost an arm and a leg.

I know, I'm ridiculous.
